This template is used to format foreign language fragments and displays them in italics.
Usage
The template accepts two unnamed parameters:
- ISO code of a language;
- foreign language fragment.

When the template should not be used
- To format an English translation from the indicated language;
- in section headers (it prevents automated creation of links to these sections).
Why the template is needed
Any fragment without language specified inherits the language of the entire text (here it is English).
- Web browsers can choose a font most suitable for the indicated language.
- Some characters of the languages Chinese, Japan, Korean and Vietnamese look different but use the same Unicode number.
- Text reading devices can pronounce the fragment in its language.
- Language indication is important for spellcheckers.
- Search engines can consider it for better indexation.
